Culture Nights is a themed lecture series I created and have curated since 2022 as Director of the Cultural Studies program at Indiana University, and with the invaluable help of Tess Given. Held at The Bishop Bar in downtown Bloomington, the series puts into practice a core principle of Cultural Studies: that the public sphere is where the project of liberation unfolds. Each event invites open, critical conversation on pressing issues, welcoming scholars, students, and community members alike to think together in a space beyond the classroom.

In 2014, De Witt Douglas Kilgore, Monique Morgan, and I created the Science Fiction Research Collective, which has met every year for the past decade. Held at the English Department at Indiana University, the Collective brings cutting-edge researchers in science fiction and related genres to IU. It also serves as a regional hub for science fiction studies, and maintains a close-knit group of PhD students and faculty for regular works-in-progress, pop culture lunches, and discussion groups.
